The Freedom of Wonder

From One Thousand Gifts Devotional:
Reflections On Finding Everyday Graces. . .
"Daily discipline is the door
to full freedom
and the discipline
to count to one thousand
gave way to
the freedom of wonder
and I can't imagine
not staying awake
to God in the moment,
the joy in the now."

As I look at this picture
of my youngest, Ben,
and me
which was taken
less than a year ago,
I realize how much and how fast
he has grown and changed;
and I realize how
the joy really is in the now
and, if we don't stay awake
to God in the moment,
we miss it.

O God, please help us
to develop
the daily discipline
to keep counting
the wonders of Your love
to one thousand
and on to infinity
because
in the counting
there is freedom
there is wonder
there is joy
there is love!

Thank You, Loving God, for these wonders of Your love:

Him you shall fear,
and to Him you shall bow yourselves down,
and to Him you shall sacrifice."

Wonder of Blessing

From Dennis Lennon, "Fueling the Fire: Fresh Thinking on Prayer",
as quoted in 1000 Gifts Devotional:

"Blessings keep our awareness
of life's holy potential
ever present.
They awaken us to our lives. . .
With each blessing uttered
we extend the boundaries
of the sacred
and ritualize
our love of life.
One hundred times a day,
everywhere we turn,
everything we touch,
everyone we see.
The blessings can be whispered.
No one even need hear.
No one but the Holy One.
"Holy One of blessing,
Your presence fills the Universe,
Your presence fills me."

Wonder of the Way of Weeping No Longer

"O people in Zion,
inhabitant in Jerusalem,
(hear your own name here: i.e., O Sally)
you will weep no longer.
He will surely be gracious to you
at the sound of your cry;
when He hears it,
He will answer you.

Although the Lord
has given you
bread of privation
and water of oppression,
He,
Your Teacher
will no longer hide Himself,
but your eyes will behold your Teacher.

Your ears will hear a word behind you,
"This is the way,
walk in it,"
whenever you turn
to the right or to the left."
(Isaiah 30:21)

O God, we do not know the way,
